Teams open in NE Lauderdale classic

Philadelphia, Choctaw Central and Union all competed in the Northeast Lauderdale Classic this past weekend in fast-pitch softball action.
Union and Choctaw Central collided in one of the games with the Lady Warriors winning a 1-0 decision. Choctaw Central also scored an 8-1 win over Clarkdale while the Lady Yellowjackets lost 5-1 to Southeast Lauderdale.
The Lady Tornadoes went 2-0 as they defeated Clarkdale 11-2 and Northeast Lauderdale 6-5.
Brooklyn Bell led off and scored the only run in the Lady Warriors' win over Union.
Jasmine Hickman was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.
Raina King and Ga'yu'eze Morris both added a single.
Against Clarkdale, the Lady Warriors scored six in the second and two in the third.
The Lady Bulldogs scored one in the third.
Betty Mingo was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.
LaChrisha Williams, Morris and Mingo all hit a double and a single.
The Lady Warriors will visit Leake Central on Thursday and host Nanih Waiya on Friday.
On Saturday, Choctaw Central will play Nanih Waiya and Pisgah in the Sebastopol tournament.
The Lady Tornadoes had an 8-4 edge at the plate against Clarkdale.
Philadelphia scored three in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Clarkdale scored two in the second.
Macy Goldman was the winning pitcher.
Kambresha Griffin hit a triple for the Lady Tornadoes while Alyssa Davis and Kenyatta Moore both added two singles.
Jada White had a single.
White hit two triples in the Lady Tornadoes' win over Northeast Lauderdale.
Philadelphia scored two in the first, two in the second, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.
The Lady Trojans scored one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Goldman had six strikeouts and was the winning pitcher.
Davis had two singles while Griffin and T.K. Cole each hit a single.
Philadelphia was to play at Neshoba Central on Tuesday.
They are to host Quitman on Friday and play in the Lake tournament on Saturday.
Next week, they will play in the Kosciusko Spring Break tournament.
The Lady Yellowjackets played two good games against quality opponents.
"We are playing the best competition we can find," Coach Jacob Casey said. "We may not win a lot of games at first but it will help us down the line when we play in our district and then the playoffs."
McKenzie Dolan knocked in the Lady Yellowjackets' only run against Southeast Lauderdale.
Averi Pender also had a hit. Anna Rodgers had four strikeouts on the mound.
The Lady Yellowjackets had bases loaded at one point against Choctaw Central but could not plate a run.
Kristen Kennedy, Pender, Hayley Morgan and Dolan all connected on singles.
Union is slated to host Nanih Waiya on Tuesday, Newton County on Thursday and then play in the Sebastopol tournament on Saturday.
