Sebastapol native Kalee McCann returned home from the AQHA Youth World Cup in College Station, Texas, with a little more luggage.

McCann, 18, represented Team USA from July 3-13 and won a 6th and 7th place medal in the Cutting, two bronze medals in the Reining, and two gold medals, along with a high point exhibitor buckle in the Hunt Seat Equitation.

This year's competition included 16 countries, 110 youth, and 150 horses. Team USA consisted of a total of 10 team members, 5 riders and 5 leadership members. They won 22 individual medals, two high point exhibitor buckles and was the 1st place finishing team where all 10 team members received a gold medal and championship buckle, along with the World Cup Trophy.

McCann made the most of her opportunity at the AQHA Youth World Cup, not just in the competitive aspect, but also the social one as well.

"It is not only a competition but it is an opportunity for youth with similar interest to come together from all across the world," she said. "I now have friends that I would have never met had it not been for the AQHA Youth World Cup."

The competitive honors were not the only ones McCann reeled in while in Texas. McCann was also elected the 2014-2015 AQHYA President while attending the AQHYA Youth Excellence Seminar held in conjunction with the AQHA World Cup. With this responsibility, she will be traveling the United States promoting the AQHA and their youth division.

McCann was proud of the individual accomplishments, but nothing could compare to the achievements of her country.

"The most memorable moment was when Team USA was announced as the 2014 AQHA Youth World Cup Champions," she said.
