The 2013 fast-pitch softball season came to an end for the Union Lady Yellowjackets over the weekend, but Coach Jacob Casey sees good things ahead for his team.
"We had a lot of young player this year who got a lot of playing time," Coach Jacob Casey. "We are losing our pitcher, Brett Whitlock, and she's going to be a big loss for us. The rest of the starting lineup is coming back.
"We are going to lift weights over the summer and try to get stronger. We are looking forward to next season."
The Lady Yellowjackets finished with a 13-14 record after being eliminated from the playoffs in the second round by Wesson. Union won game one 3-1, but lost two games on Saturday, 4-0 and 3-2.
Whitlock was the pitcher in all three games.
In game one, the Lady Yellowjackets went up 3-0 in the first inning and held on for the win. Union had a 5-4 edge at the plate. Averi Pender led the way with a triple and Cassie Smith added two hits.
Wesson held Union scoreless in the second game. Both teams had four hits.
Kristen Kennedy, Brett Whitlock, Keri Ann Mayfield and Ebony Buckley all had a hit.
The Lady Yellowjackets dropped a one-run loss in game three. Pender hit a triple while Sam Keneker added a double. Buckley hit two singles.
