The Neshoba Central boys held off a strong comeback in the fourth quarter to take a 79-74 win over Choctaw Central Friday night in prep basketball action.

Neshoba Central led 23-19 at the end of the first quarter. The Rockets outscored the Warriors 24-16 in the second quarter and led 47-35 at the half.

After an even third quarter, the Warriors put in 22 fourth quarter points while the Rockets scored 16 and held on for the victory.

T.J. Ben scored 24 points to lead the Rockets while Christian Mingo added 15 and Grant Willis added 13.

Neshoba Central was to visit Ridgeland on Monday. They play in the Choctaw Central Christmas tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Neshoba Central teams play Choctaw Central at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

New Hope and Leake Central are also entered.

On Saturday, the first round winners play the winners and the losers play the losers

The Lady Rockets, meanwhile, played Choctaw Central tough in a 61-57 loss that dropped them to 8-3.

Kaitlyn Duke led Neshoba Central with 15 points. T'Keya Backstrom added 14.

"We gave it all we had but we ran out of gas in the fourth quarter," coach Fred Morris said. "I was pleased with the effort. Next time we play them, we are going to use our bench more."
