The Neshoba Central basketball teams split a pair of games with Choctaw County Friday night in the only action they saw last week.

The Neshoba Central boys cruised to a 65-43 win over the Chargers to improve to 4-5 on the season. The Lady Rockets fell to 4-4 with a 49-48 loss to Choctaw County.

Both teams will be back in action with three games this week. Neshoba Central was to host Choctaw Central on Tuesday. The Rocket teams were to host West Point Friday and then take on Shannon in the Noxubee County Classic on Saturday.

“We are a work in progress,” Coach Jerry Byrd said. “Everyone is working hard and we are going to get where we want to be. We have a lot to work on.”

The Rockets led 26-14 after the first quarter. Neshoba Central outscored Choctaw County 11-9 in the second quarter and led 37-23 at the half. After a slow third quarter, the Rockets put in 22 fourth quarter points to put the game away.

Trajan Fielder led with 22 points while El’riggo Herrington added 12 and Jacob McMillan scored 10.

The Choctaw County girls jumped out to a 26-18 halftime lead. Neshoba Central battled back in the third quarter and trailed 34-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Rockets took the lead during the fourth quarter but Choctaw County scored late to claim the win.

Jasmine Chickaway led with 15 points while Hallie Billie scored 14 and Taylor Ben scored 13.
