The Neshoba Central Rockets opened Region 3-5A baseball campaign with a sweep of Canton High School in action last week.

The Rockets beat Canton 15-0 in the first game and 19-0 in game two. On Saturday, the Rockets dropped a 9-5 decision to Newton County.

The Rockets will be playing in the Meridian spring tournament this week. They were to play Columbia Academy and Columbus on Tuesday. They then take on Houston Thursday at East Central Community College.

The Rockets entered the week with a 4-2 record.

Hayden Knight pitched a no-hitter as the Rockets won the first game of the series.

Neshoba Central scored 11 in the first, one in the second and three in the third.

Knight had eight strike outs in three innings of work.

The Rockets pounded out nine hits. Clay Sanders hit two doubles. Anthony Medine had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two runs. Chap Duncan hit a double while scoring a run and knocking in another. Ramie Harrison hit a double. Cade Hall and Mark Hunt both scored three runs while nailing a hit and knocking in a run.

The Rockets scored big in the third inning to put Canton away.

Neshoba Central scored two in the first, three in the second, nine in the third and five in the fourth.

Duncan was the winning pitcher. He pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out six.

Medine hit a double, knocked in two runs and scored three. Clay Sanders scored four runs while getting two hits and one RBI. Hunt hit a double and a single and knocked in three runs. Reid Hall and Phillip Hines both had a single.

Newton County scored all of its runs in the first three innings and held on to defeat Neshoba Central.

Newton County scored two in the first, three in the second and four in the third inning. Neshoba Central scored two in the first, two in the second and one in the fifth.

Sanders started the game and lasted 1,1 innings while giving up four earned runs. Martin and Medine pitched in relief.

Cade Hall hit a double and two singles. He knocked in three runs and scored another.

Hines had two hits while Medine and Martin both had one.
