The Neshoba Central Rockets may be a little short-handed but they opened their 2019-2020 basketball season with a pair of victories.

The Rockets defeated Choctaw Central 49-44 last Tuesday, then topped Northeast Lauderdale 59-42. Neshoba Central is missing several players who are on the football team.

“We are doing a good job with our half-court offense,” Coach Jerry Byrd said. “We are taking care of the ball. We are playing good defense.”

The Lady Rockets dropped both of their games last week. They fell 73-37 to Choctaw Central and 48-42 to Northeast Lauderdale.

The Rocket teams are scheduled to host Pearl Tuesday and West Lauderdale on Thursday.

The Rockets pulled away from Choctaw Central in the fourth quarter.

It was even up until then. Choctaw Central led 22-21 at the half. Neshoba Central outscored the Warriors 13-12 in the third stanza and the score stood at 34-34 going into the final quarter. There, Neshoba Central outscored the Warriors 15-10 and claimed the victory.

Jacob McMillan led Neshoba Central with 21 points.

NE Lauderdale 42

Neshoba Central led all the way as they took a convincing win over Northeast Lauderdale.

The Rockets led 24-17 at the half. Leading 40-32 heading into the fourth quarter,  they outscored the Trojans 19-10 to ice the win.

McMillan led with 20 points while Bryceton Spencer added 14 and Coby McMillan scored 13.

The Lady Rockets were no match for Choctaw Central at this point.

Choctaw Central went up 43-25 at the half. Shay Hunter led with nine points while Veronica Williams added seven points.

Northeast Lauderdale pulled away from Neshoba Central in the fourth quarter.

Neshoba Central led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored eight points in the second period and the Lady Rockets led 22-17 at the break. Northeast Lauderdale outscored Neshoba Central 31-20 in the second half.

Hamaya Fielder led with 13 points. Jeleisya Jim scored 11 and Hunter put in seven.
