The Neshoba Central Rockets have not won a game so far this season.

But as far as the Region 2-5A standings are concerned, the Rockets stand at 0-0 Friday night when they travel to Pearl for the first of seven region games.

"We have been saying all season that this team is a work in progress," Rockets Coach Chuck Friend said. "We have a lot of young players out there who haven't gotten a lot of playing time before, and they have to learn by doing.

"We are sticking together. We are just going to have to be patient and keep working."

The Rockets were off last week and Coach Friend said they used that time to work on fundamentals and timing.

"We had some good practices," Friend said. "And, we have had some injuries and we are getting a few people back."

Pearl comes into the game with a 4-1 record having defeated Bastrop, La., 41-24 last week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

After Pearl, the Rockets will return home to play Callaway on Oct. 5.

They travel to Canton on Oct. 11, host Germantown on Oct. 18, visit Ridgeland on Oct. 25, visit Lanier on Oct. 31, and then close out the season at home against Vicksburg.
