The Vicksburg Gators scored 20 points in the second half as they took a 27-8 victory over Neshoba Central Friday night in prep football action.

The Rockets finished the season with a 1-10 record. Vicksburg improved to 6-5 and will travel to Oxford Friday for the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

It marked the final game for Chuck Friend as Rockets head coach. Friend said earlier that he would not be returning as coach next season.

Vicksburg scored first and led 7-0. The Rockets got on the scoreboard in the first half when Matt Howell caught a 36-yard TD pass from quarterback Taylor Irby. Pat Burrage ran in the two-point conversion and the Rockets led 8-7.

The Gators took the lead midways through the third quarter on a short run, making the score 13-8. They forced a punt and scored on a 68-yard run to go up 20-8. The Gators scored once in the fourth quarter.

The Rockets finished with 105 rushing yards on 36 carries, and 81 passing yards on six completions.

Damien Seales was the leading rusher with 46 yards on six carries.

Ken Edwards and Cole Hodgins led the team in tackles with 13 each. Tristan Ellingburg added 12 tackles.
