The Neshoba Central Rockets were playing for a spot in the next round of the State Class 5A baseball playoffs.

As of Monday night, the Rockets were tied at 1-1 in their series with Hernando. The Rockets won game one 6-5 while Hernando took game two 10-2. Game three was scheduled at Hernando on Tuesday night.

"They have a very good hitting team," Coach Justin Stovall said. "We played a good game Saturday and beat them. But we made too many errors Monday night and it cost us."

The Rockets stood at 18-8 after Monday night.

In game one, Neshoba Central scored four in the third and two in the fourth. Hernando answered with two in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Austin Harrison was the winning pitcher. He had five strike outs.

Neshoba Central had an 8-7 hitting edge. Peyton Clark led with a home run and a single while John Carr Bates, Caleb Crenshaw, Harrison and Chase McNair all hit a single.

In game two, the Rockets scored one in the third and one in the seventh. Hernando scored three in the first, five in the third and two in the fifth.

Zack Whittle was the losing pitcher.

Hernando had a 13-6 hitting edge. K.J. Moore hit a double and a single while Harrison added two singles. Joseph Willis and Tanner Salter both hit a single.

The winner of this series plays Oxford, which eliminated Starkville to advance.
