Region 5-2A to be decided Friday

The Region 5-2A will be decided Friday night when the Union Yellowjackets host Lake in a game that has become known as the Breland Bowl.
Coach Brad Breland will be leading his Union team against Lake, under the direction of his brother, Jeff Breland.

Both teams stand at 3-0 in the region standings. Lake stands at 8-0 overall while Union comes in at 6-3. Both teams registered region victories last week. Union beat Scott Central 40-24 while Lake stopped Newton High School 33-3.
"It's a big game, no doubt about it," Brad Breland said. "We are playing well and now is the time to do it. This is for the region championship."
Against Scott Central, Union scored most of its points in the first half and the Bobcats waited until the fourth quarter to score all of their points.
Tre Bogan ran one-yard for a touchdown with 6:39 left in the first quarter. Joseph Alford scored the two-point conversion and the Yellowjackets led 8-0. Bogan later intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. The extra point try was no good and Union led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Bogan completed three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put his team up 34-0 at the half. The first went to James Huddleston and covered five yards. The extra point try was no good and the Yellowjackets led 20- with 11:26 left in the second quarter.
Bogan then went to Laviel Wells on a 46-yard TD pass play with 8:28 left in the second quarter. The run failed and the Yellowjackets led 26-0.
Lake, Bogan found Jake Rawson for a 10-yard TD pass play. Alford ran in the two-point conversion and the Yellowjackets led 34-0 at the half.
The fourth quarter was a wild one as four touchdowns were scored during the 12-minute span. Tradarius Harris scored Union's only points with 1:09 left in the game.
Union finished the game with 345 total yards while Scott Central turned in 326 yards.
The Yellowjackets had 243 rushing yards on 29 carries and completed 7-of-13 passing attempts for 102 yards. Scott Central had 258 rushing yards on 53 carries and completed 4-of-11 passing attempts for 68 yards.
Bogan led the Yellowjackets with 102 passing yards and 139 rushing yards on 15 carries. Wells had three catches for 63 yards. Harris added 53 rushing yards.
