Leake Academy will open its 2013 prep football season on the road Friday night when the Rebels take on Copiah Academy.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Rebels are the defending District 2-AA champions. They finished the 2012 season with an 8-4 record.

Last year, Copiah Academy lost its first eight games and finished 1-10 on the season. The Rebels defeated Copiah Academy 33-24 during the season.

Leake Academy played two halves last Thursday during the Tri-County Academy football jamboree.

The Rebels defeated Newton Academy 12-0 in the first half. Joshua Jones scored two touchdowns with both coming on five-yard runs. As a team, the Rebels finished with 150 yards led by Thomas Nazary.

In the second game, the Rebels beat Porters Chapel 7-0. Reed Mayfield, who completed 6-of-8 passing attempts for 90 yards, connected with Nazary for the only touchdown of the contest.
