The Philadelphia High School varsity tennis team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs before being eliminated by Pass Christian on Monday.

The Tornadoes won their first round match over West Marion last week.

Against West Marion in girls singles, Olivia Moore won by forfeit. Natalie Posey and Maddi Trapp won their No. 1 girls doubles match 6-0, 6-0, while Anna Smith and Nohemi Valez took the girls No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-2.

In mixed doubles, Abe Mars and Rebecca Prince won their match, 6-0, 6-2.

William Smith lost in boys singles, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. John Harold Smith and Gray Moorehead won in the No. 1 boys doubles, 6-0, 6-4; while Paul Prince and Cooper Smith won in boys No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3.

Pass Christian swept its matches against the Tornadoes.

In girls singles, Rebecca Prince dropped a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision. Pose and Trapp lost in girls No. 1 doubles 7-5, 6-3, while in No. 2 girls doubles, Smith and Valez lost 6-0, 6-1.

William Smith and Olivia Moore fell in mixed doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

Moorehead lost in boys singles 6-1, 6-2. John Harold Smith and Mars lost in boys doubles No. 1 6-4. 6-2; while Prince and Smith lost in boys doubles No. 2 action 6-2, 6-2.

Four members of the Philadelphia team have qualified for the state individual category tournament which starts next week. Paul Prince will play boys singles; Olivia Moore will play girls singles and Abe Mars and Rebecca Prince will play mixed doubles.
