Fans of the Noxapater High School are still smiling following the Tigers' 21-10 victory over Shaw in the Class 1A state championship game.

The Tigers claimed the first place trophy Dec. 2 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson during championship weekend hosted by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.

It capped a 12-3 season which started back in August. The Tigers dropped their first three games to non-district rivals Ackerman, Eupora and Kemper County. Led by head coach Tyler Peterson, they went on to win the Region 3-1A championship. They went on to capture the South State championship with a win over Cathedral, and then took it one more step as they beat North State winner Shaw on clear, beautiful day.

Looking at the final stats for the season, the Tigers had 5,580 total yards on offense. The Tigers had 3,541 rushing yards on 410 rush; and completed 123 passes for 2,039 yards.

Quarterback Ethan Hamilton completed 119-out-of-209 passing attempts for 1,907 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed 121 times for 1,134 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Running back Trey Baber rushed for 1,172 yards and 17 touchdowns on 114 carries. Gregory McBeath led the team in pass receptions with 38 catches and 583 yards while Jaquan Williams caught 29 passes for 504 yards.

On defense, McBeath had 126 tackles while Anthony Brown and Baber both had 120 tackles.
