The Parks Department staff at Northside Park will be keeping some long hours for the next week as they play host to the Dixie Youth State Eight-year-old tournament.

Twelve teams will be coming in to town for tournament. The winning team will advance to the Dixie Youth World Series which will be held in South Carolina this year.

The tournament is slated to start Friday and is scheduled to run through Sunday, weather permitting. Three fields are scheduled to be used throughout the tournament.

Philadelphia will be represented in the tournament. The top two teams from each district have qualified to play.

This past weekend, Northside Park hosted the Dixie Youth 12-year-old district tournament. Last year, it was the host site of the Dixie Youth 6-year-old tournament.

“There will be a lot of people coming in for the weekend,” said Parks director Cody Bryan. “When we hosted the 6-year-old state last year, some people said there had never been that many people at the park at one time. It should be a big crowd.

“This is good for the community and good for the parks. It brings in extra money and tax revenue. And it shows people what outstanding facilities we have.”

The Parks Department and the Neshoba County Tourism Commission teams to bid for the tournament.
