The Dizzy Dean 8-year-old and 12-year-old girls softball all-stars will begin tournament play this week at Northside Park.

The 12-and-under all-stars will be playing for the Dizzy Dean State Tournament while the 8-and-under girls will be seeking the South State title. The Dizzy Dean World Series will be held in July.

Michael and Michelle Latham will be doing double time in this tournament just as they did during the park season. They coached 8U and 12U teams to regular season championships which led to them being named as coaches in the all-star season.

The 8U team has seven players returning from last year's all-star team which won the Dizzy Dean World Series. They are looking to repeat as champions again, said Michael.

"We played as the Neshoba Extreme on weekend and have already qualified for the World Series," Michael said. "The 12-year-old team is a true park all-star team. They haven't played together and we have only had three practices (as of Monday). But we have some good players and we hope both teams do well."

The 12U tournament has 10 teams in it and gets under way Thursday. The Neshoba team opens against Senatobia at 3 p.m. The tournament continues through Sunday with the championship game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

The 8U tournament gets under way Friday and is scheduled to be completed with the championship game set for Sunday at 5 p.m. The Neshoba Extreme opens at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The Neshoba 6U will be traveling to Tunica will the Neshoba 10U will be playing in Louisville.

The Dixie Youth all-star tournaments will follow the weekend after July 4. All-star team coming from Northside Park will be participating in the 10U, 11U and 12U tournaments. The 12U tournament will be held at Northside Park.
