The Neshoba Central Rockets swept Callaway to advance to the next round of the Class 5A baseball playoffs.

The Rockets beat the Chargers 10-0 in the first game and took the second game 10-4.

They improved to 18-7 and will play Hernando in the next round. The first game will be Thursday on the road. Game two will be played at Neshoba Central starting at 6 p.m. The third game, if necessary will be at Hernando starting at 1 p.m. Hernando won the Region 1-5A championship with an 8-1 region record and was off last week. The Leopards are 12-11 overall.

"We played two good games against Callaway and took care of business," Neshoba Central Coach Justin Stovall said. "Hernando is going to be a tough series. They played a tough schedule.

"The competition improves each week in the playoffs and it's going to get tougher each week."

In game one against Callaway, Neshoba Central scored one in the first, eight in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Austin Harrison threw a no hitter to pick up the victory. He recorded 10 strike outs.

The Rockets had 14 hits. Drew Coats led the way with a triple and two singles. Peyton Clark added a double and a single while Chase McNair had two singles. K.J. Moore and Joseph Willis both had two singles while Zach Whittle, John Carr Bates and Caleb Crenshaw all hit a single.

Whittle picked up the pitching victory in game two. He recorded nine strike outs.

Neshoba Central scored three in the first, four in the third and three in the fifth. Callaway answered with one in the second and three in the fifth.

The Rockets finished with nine hits. Crenshaw and Clark both hit a double and a single. Harrison connected on a double and Coats hit a single.

Earlier in the week, the Rockets dropped a 13-1 decision to West Lauderdale in their final regular season game. Whittle took the loss. Coats had two singles and Bates had one.
