So what does Trae Embry do for an encore?

Last fall, Embry came to Neshoba Central after a successful softball coaching career at Eupora and led the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets to their first slow-pitch state championship.

The Lady Rockets started practice for the 2013 fast-pitch season on Monday and Embry said his team's plans are to keep getting better.

"We are a young team," Embry said. "We have 31 girls out and 27 are in the 10th grade or younger. We only have two seniors, Miranda Crenshaw and Jesse Hennington.

"We are going to work hard and try to improve each day. If we do that, we'll see what happens," Embry said. "The sky is the limit."

Neshoba Central's first action will be Feb. 16 when they compete in the Kosciusko jamboree. The following weekend, they play in the Southeast Lauderdale classic. Then the season starts Feb. 25 at home with Union.
