Neshoba Central honored its girls basketball teams of 1989-1990 and 1990-1991 Saturday night during halftime ceremonies of the Lady Rockets' game.

These teams made back-to-back trips to the finals of the State Class 4A Tournament. The Lady Rockets brought home the state championship in 1991, which was 20 years ago.

In a two year span, Neshoba Central put together a record of 72-7.

"Time flies," said then-coach Bill Smith, who is now the head coach of the women's team at East Central Community College. "This was a hard-working team with a "T" for team. In 1990, we lost to South Pike in the finals. In 1991, we beat Pearl."

The 1989-1990 Lady Rockets finished the season with a 36-3 record. They were Division 4 champions and went on to win the North State Tournament. Team members included Tonya Durant, Amy Apperson, Yancey Mason, Sara Hollingsworth, Teresa Fulton, Tanya Beckham, T.J. Williamson, Becky White, Brande Thomas, Valerie Arledge and Rebecca Marshall. Starters were Nicole Flint, Brook Clay, Misty Wright, Amy Apperson and Patricia Nash.

The 1990-1991 team finished with a record of 36-4. They repeated as division and North State champions, and took it a step further by winning the state championship. Team members included Bridget Jones, Etress Amerson, Tonya Greer, Amy Townsend, Linda Collier and Jill Posey. The starters were Valerie Arledge, Teresa Fulton, Yancey Mason, Tanya Beckham and Patricia Nash.

"It was good to get back together," Smith said. "I see some of them every day. Others, I get to see at the Fair. And then there are some I don't see very often. But this was a quick 20 years and I have a lot of good memories from coaching these two teams."
