NC slips past Union, 4-2

Neshoba Central scored a 4-2 victory over Union Saturday night in prep baseball action during the Newton County Classic.
The Rockets also took a 14-4 win over Lake while the Yellowjackets dropped a 13-6 decision to host Newton County.
The Union game was a reunion of sorts for Neshoba Central Coach Justin Stovall, who coached the Yellowjackets for several years. Stovall is in his second season with the Rockets.
The Rockets scored two in the second and two in the fifth. Union answered with one in the second and one in the sixth.
This game turned into a pitcher's duel between Rockets hurler Austin Harrison and Union's Dustin Bates. Harrison had 12 strikeouts over six innings of work and allowed two hits. Bates recorded nine strikeouts and allowed four hits.
Barrett Ramier hit two singles and knocked in two runs in the fifth inning to pace the Rockets. Tristen Ellenberg added a double and Taylor Irby hit a single for the Rockets.
Will Kennedy and Bates both hit triples to lead the Yellowjackets.
Neshoba Central defeated Lake in four innings during Friday's game. The Rockets scored four in the first, five in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth. Lake scored one in the first, two in the second and one in the third.
Brady Stephenson was the winning pitcher. He recorded six strikeouts and allowed five hits.
The Rockets banged out eight hits. Harrison hit a double and a single while Sammy Singleton, Brandon Clark and Preston Anderson all hit a double. Ryan Montgomery and Stephenson both hit a single.
Neshoba Central has a busy week coming up. They were to play two games in the Northeast Lauderdale tournament against Quitman and the host Trojans. On Friday, they were to play Newton County in the Clarkdale tournament. Then on Saturday, they play at Philadelphia, starting at noon.
The Newton County Cougars kept up a steady attack in their win over Union. The Cougars scored four in the first, two in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and two in the sixth. Union answered with four in the third and two in the seventh.
Will Kennedy took the pitching loss for the Yellowjackets. He was relieved by Austin Hood. Peyton Cain was the winning pitcher for Newton County.
Kennedy and Bates both hit a double. Tyler Rawson added two singles while Adrian Richardson hit a single.
Union was to play West Lauderdale in the Clarkdale tournament on Monday. The Yellowjackets will host Newton County on Friday and then host a tournament on Saturday. Union will play Choctaw Central in the first game while Newton County battles Forest in the second game.
