The search continues for a new head football coach at Neshoba Central.
Neshoba Central principal John Bowen confirmed that several applications have been received and that interviews are now being done to fill the position left vacant at the end of the season. Longtime coach Chuck Friend announced he would not be returning next year.
"We have not invited anyone back for a second interview yet, but we are getting close to that point," Bowen said. "Football season is still going on with the playoffs and that may hold up some of the interviews. We are not in a hurry.
"We are looking for the right man to come in with a vision of what Neshoba Central football should be. We want him to take what has been started here and move us forward."
Bowen, now in his second year as principal at Neshoba Central, emphasized that this is an important hire. He said that having a good knowledge of the game of football was a must for the new head coach. But there are other factors that are important, Bowen said.
"We want someone who is going to be committed to the school and our football program; who is willing to come in and stay awhile" Bowen said. "We want someone who can teach and will move in and become part of the community. That's important"
Bowen said he is hopeful to have someone hired by or around the Christmas break.
