Just weeks after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL, senior Zack Mowdy returned to action and picked the Union Yellowjackets to an 8-1 win over Puckett in prep baseball action.
"He wanted to try it and the doctor cleared him to play," Union Coach Dustin Hamrick said. "We put him in a brace and he really gutted it out."
Mowdy struck out 13 batters. Union scored two in the first, four in the second and two in the sixth. Puckett scored its run in the seventh inning.
The Yellowjackets finished with 11 hits. Dustin Bates led with three hits while Paul White added a double and a single while Jake Rawson added two hits. Austin Hood, Grant Gibbs and Tre Bogan both hit singles.
The win evened the series with Puckett which took a 12-4 win over Union earlier in the week. Puckett scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the third, eight in the fourth and two in the fifth. Union scored two in the first and two in the fifth. Dustin Bates took the pitching loss.
Gibbs hit a double and a single while Ryan Baysinger added two singles. White, Hood and Bogan all had one single.
