The Super Bowl of Golf will take place this weekend in Augusta, Georgia.

The 83rd annual Masters Golf Tournament is the most famous of the world’s golf tournaments. Augusta has a population of about 200,000, but on this weekend the city will double in population. In 2018, Patrick Reed edged Rickie Flower by one stroke to claim the title and the famous Green Jacket presented to the annual winner since 1947.

Four-time champion Tiger Woods is scheduled to take part in this year’s Masters.  Jack Nicklaus is the all-time champion as he won six titles over three decades while Arnold Palmer was a four-time Masters champ. The action begins on Thursday.

Spring football

Ole Miss football had its annual Grove Bowl this past Saturday. The defense won over the offense, 29-25, in a made for TV affair. The Rebels have two new coordinators in Rick Rodriquez (offense) and Mike McIntyre (defense). Rodriquez is still installing a run-oriented spread option that is a work in progress. The defense is also changing in that McIntyre wants to install a 3-4 scheme that is different from the past coordinator's. The offense will have to replace three veteran offensive linemen and three of the best receivers in school history while also breaking in a new quarterback. The defense has several spots that need attention at linebacker and defensive backfield.

Ole Miss opens in Memphis on August 31. Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi will have their spring games Saturday.

Ole Miss baseball pulled a shocker this weekend as they swept the Florida Gators in Oxford to move into a first place tie in the SEC West standings. The Rebels (23-10, 8-4) overcame an 8-0 deficit in game three of the series and then roared back to win that contest, 12-10. Ole Miss will travel to Kentucky this week. Southern Mississippi (20-9, 10-2) swept Marshall over the weekend and will travel to Florida International this week. Mississippi State (27-6, 7-5) will host Alabama this week. Last weekend, the Dogs won two of three contests at Tennessee.
