Local football players earn all-state honors

Members of the Neshoba Central and Philadelphia high school football teams recently earned all-state honors in their respective classifications.
These teams were announced through the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
Neshoba Central's Ken Edwards and Matthew Turcotte were named first team Class 5A while Rocket teammates Shundrick Russell and Thomas McCool were named second team all-state.
Edwards, a junior defensive end, had 48 solo tackles and 38 assists. He had four sacks.
Turcotte, a junior punter, got the Rockets out of a hole several times during the 2012 season with his booming punts. He averaged near 43 yards per kick.
Russell, a senior safety, had 82 tackles. He also lined up as a running back and rushed for 383 yards on 23 carries.
McCool, a senior linebacker, had 139 total tackles and two interceptions.
Anthony Triplett was named to the Class 3A first team as a defensive back. Kaleb Moore was named to the second team as a linebacker, while Doug Taylor earned second team honors as an offensive lineman.
Triplett finished with 11 interceptions and 40 tackles. Last week, he was named Best Defensive Back in Region 5-3A.
Moore, senior linebacker, had 62 solo tackles and 27 assists. He was credited with four interceptions and three sacks. Moore also played running back and finished with 374 yards on 56 carries and three touchdowns.
Taylor, a 320-pound senior offensive tackle, was named Best Offensive Linemen in Region 5-3A last week.
