The Leake Academy Rebels racked up their fourth win in a row Friday night as they took a 48-7 victory over Hartfield Academy in prep football action.
With one District 2-AA game remaining on their schedule, the Rebels control their destiny. If they beat Oak Hill on October 25, they will be district champions for the third year in a row. It will also mark the third season in a row that the Rebels have not lost a district game.
But this Friday, Leake Academy hosts Heritage Academy, an AAA school that comes in at 6-2 with its only losses coming to Jackson Academy and Pillow Academy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Here is a look at the Academy 2-AA standings.
Leake Academy 6-2 4-0
Tri-County 7-1 3-1
Oak Hill 5-3 2-1
Canton 5-3 1-2
Manchester 1-7 0-3
Winston 1-7 0-3
Against Hartfield, the Rebels did all of their scoring in the first half.
Taylor Nazary put the Rebels on the scoreboard on a 34-yard run. John Forrest Sisson kicked the extra point and the Rebels led 7-0.
The Hawks, who had won their last three games in a row, bounced back to tie the score at 7-7. But then the Rebels clipped their wings.
Taylor Nazary scored two quick touchdowns on one-yard runs. The extra point try was no good after the first one. Leake Academy went for two after the second and Alex Shepard connected with Thomas Nazary to make the score 21-7.
Christopher Pippen then scored on a 16-yard run. The extra point try was no good and at the break, the Rebels led 27-7.
It was more of the same in the second quarter. Sisson scored on a six-yard run and kicked the extra point to make it 34-7. Later, Brandon Wilcher scored on a two yard run. Sisson's kick was true and the Rebels led 41-7.
The final score for the Rebels came when Brandon Johnson returned an interception for a touchdown. Sisson kicked the extra point.
The Hawks fall to 3-5 on the season.
