The Leake Academy basketball teams have three tough games and a long road trip ahead of them this week as they swing back into action following the Thanksgiving break.

Leake Academy was to host Simpson Academy Tuesday. They travel to Meridian on Thursday to take on Lamar School. Then on Saturday, they travel to Natchez to play Adams County Christian School in a makeup game from last year.

`The Lady Rebels stand at 8-0 as they return from break. The Leake Academy boys stand at 3-1 as they split a pair of unreported games before the holiday week. Leake Academy traveled to Batesville November 13 where the boys defeated North Delta 80-45. They returned home where they lost a 55-48 decision to Jackson Academy.

The Rebels led 22-5 at the end of the first quarter in their game with North Delta. Leake Academy had a 32-19 scoring edge in the second quarter and led 54-24 at the half.

The Rebels would outpoint North Delta 26-22 in the second half to wrap up the win.

Daniel Young led the Rebels with 23 points while Will-Lawson Harkins scored 14.

Leake Academy played Jackson Academy tough and led for most of the game. Then the Rebels got into foul trouble in the fourth quarter and the Raiders slipped by.

Leading 13-9 after the first quarter, Leake Academy outscored the Raiders 16-15 in the second quarter and led 29-24 at the half.

The Rebels carried a 39-36 lead into the fourth quarter. There, Jackson Academy held them to nine points while putting in 19 to take the win.

Coach Phil Shepard said the team had practices over the holidays and will be ready for this week’s challenges.

“This is a big week for us,” Shepard said. “We have three tough opponents and then we open district play the following week. This gives us one more chance to fine tune and make any adjustments before district.”

The Rebel teams host Starkville Academy Tuesday, December 4, and then host Lamar School Friday, December 7.
