The Leake Academy Rebels improved to 5-3 and 3-0 in the District 2AA standings will a 44-12 victory over Manchester Academy Friday night in prep football action.

"It was a good overall effort," Leake Academy coach Brian Pickens said. "We have to keep working to improve each we and we showed it. Our defense played well."

The Rebels rolled up 405 yards in total offense. Leake Academy rushed for 215 yards, and Rebels quarterback Reed Mayfield completed 9-of-10 passing attempts for 195 yards

Leake Academy went up 7-0 in the first quarter when Taylor Nazary scored on a one-yard run. John Forrest Sisson kicked the extra point.

The Rebels then added 28 points in the second quarter.

Will Myers caught two touchdown pass from Mayfield during the quarter. The first covered 12 yards and the other was for 14 yards. Nazary scored on a one-yard run and Alex Shepard caught a 40-yard TD pass from Mayfield. Sisson was good on all four extra point tries.

Manchester scored a touchdown in the second quarter on a 23-yard TD pass play but the Rebels led 35-6 at the half.

The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the third quarter. Leake Academy's came on an 18-yard run by Sisson. The Rebel defense came up with a safety in the fourth quarter.

Myers was the leading receiver with five catches for 91 yards while Shepard had three catches for 92 yards. Nazary rushed for 64 yards on nine carries to lead Leake Academy's rushing attack. Brandon Johnson was the leading tackler with five stops; Thomas Tubby recovered a fumble; and, Drew McMillian had an interception.

The Rebels now turn their attention to Friday night when they play host to Newton Academy. The Generals come in at 4-3, losing a 35-0 decision to Tri-County last week.
