The Lake Hornets proved to be too much for Union as they took a 40-20 victory in prep football action.

With the victory, Lake claimed the Region 5-2A championship while Union will finish second. Both teams close out the season Friday night. Lake hosts Enterprise while Union travels to Newton.

"We played hard," Coach Brad Breland said.

"But it was their night. Now we're moving on to playing Newton and getting ready for the playoffs."

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. Quarterback Tre Bogan scored on a three-yard run. Then Jake Rawson recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Lake came back with three touchdowns in the second quarter. Chris Johnson scored on runs of seven and three yards. Then Matt Mitchell ran 20 yards for a touchdown. Logan LeBlanc scored one extra point and the Hornets led 20-12 at the half.

Juwan Bell and Johnson both scored in the third quarter to put the Hornets up 33-12. Bogan brought the Yellowjackets back when he scored on a one-yard run. Josepf Butler ran in the two point conversion and Union trailed 33-20.

Johnson then ran 47 yards for a touchdown to put the game on ice. Bryson Luke kicked the extra point.

Bogan led the Yellowjackets with 134 passing yards on eight completions, and 64 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Huddleston caught three passes for 79 yards.

Lake finished with 415 total yards on offense with all but four coming on the ground. Union had 205 total yards. John Spivey led the Hornets with 171 yards rushing.
