The Choctaw Central Lady Warriors split a pair of games over the weekend in the Newton County Tournament.

The Lady Warriors dropped a 53-52 decision to Northeast Jones on Friday night, and then bounced back to defeat Newton County 58-25. The Choctaw Central boys dropped a 57-50 decision to West Lauderdale, but came back to beat Northeast Jones 54-53.

"We just didn't play with any intensity against Northeast Jones and we lost," coach Bill Smith said. "Hopefully, it woke us up. We had a lot better effort against Newton County.

Northeast Jones led 32-19 at the half. Choctaw Central fought in the second half, outscoring the Lady Tigers 33-21 over two quarter but fell short in the end. Kandace Lasiloo led the Lady Warriors with 12 points while Kristen Dixon added 11 and Lashayla McMillan scored 10.

Choctaw Central led 24-6 after the first quarter and led all the way in their win over Newton County. Dixon, Maleah Issac and Mariah Lewis all scored nine points for the Lady Warriors.

Choctaw Central has two region games this week. They visit Heidelberg on Tuesday and Newton on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Warriors will play Petal in the Wayne County Classic. That game starts at 3 p.m.
