Lady Tornadoes capture Sebastopol tournament

The Philadelphia High School Lady Tornadoes entered the week with a 5-3 record after winning the Sebastopol Tournament over the weekend.
"It's a start," said Lady Tornadoes head coach Pashen Autry. "It's been a while since Philadelphia has won a tournament in girls basketball. We are proud of it and it is another building block in rebuilding our program."
The Lady Tornadoes took a 35-26 win over Nanih Waiya on Thursday night, and then took a 56-33 win over Sebastopol. Earlier in the week, the Lady Tornadoes dropped a 48-26 decision to Germantown in Madison County.
The Philadelphia boys dropped two of their three games last week. They lost to Germantown 50-45 on Tuesday. They fell 56-52 to Leake Central on Thursday but came back Saturday to beat Ethel 68-53.
Philadelphia will be home Tuesday night against Kosciusko. The Tornado teams will be in the Noxapater Shootout this Saturday. Both will play the host teams.

Nanih Wayia 26
After a slow first half, the Lady Tornadoes took control in the third quarter and held on for the victory.
Philadelphia led 9-7 at the half. The Lady Tornadoes outscored Nanih Wayia 16-10 in the third quarter to lead 25-17 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Tornadoes held a 10-9 edge during the final eight minutes of play.
Latesha Carter scored 19 points and three rebounds to lead the Lady Tornadoes. Kenyatta Moore added 10 points. Tatyana Fox finished with 10 rebounds and three steals while Kaysun Greer had nine rebounds.

Tatyana Fox scored 20 points to lead the Lady Warriors past Sebastopol in the tournament finals.
Leading 8-5 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tornadoes would outscore Sebastopol 18-7 in the second quarter to post a 26-12 half time lead. Philadelphia held on throughout the second half to claim the win.
Fox also finished with 13 rebounds and four points. Precious Moore scored 16 points and had two steals and two rebounds. Carter had 12 points and two steals.

A slow third quarter did the Tornadoes in. Germantown led 26-25 at the half and held Philadelphia to just four points in the third quarter as they slipped away.
Sherman Bufkin led the Tornadoes with 13 points.

Leake County pulled away in the fourth quarter to slip past the Tornadoes.
Philadelphia led 22-18 at the half. Both teams scored 18 points in the third quarter. Then the Gators outscored Philadelphia 20-13 in the final stanza to claim the win.
Montreal Jordan led Philadelphia with 10 points and Josh Fulton added nine.

The Tornadoes took over in the second half to claim a win over Ethel.
Ethel led 18-11 after the first quarter, but Philadelphia outscored them 23-17 in the second stanza to trail 35-34 at the half. Philadelphia outscored Ethel 19-6 in the third quarter to put the victory away.
Sherman Bufkin led the Tornadoes with 13 points while Jordan added 10.
