The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets have advanced to the North State Class 5A championship series with a sweep of Lake Cormorant over the weekend.

They face New Hope this weekend. The first game will be played at New Hope on Friday while game two and three, if necessary, will be played at Neshoba Central starting at 2 p.m.

The wins over Lake Cormorant on Friday and Saturday ended a long week for the Lady Rockets who now stand at 28-2.

It started on Tuesday. They were on the road to Oxford when they were turned around because of the weather. They went to Oxford on Wednesday and swept the series in two games, 24-2 and 20-1.

On Friday, they faced off against a Lake Cormorant team that had one loss. They won game one 3-0 and then took game two 8-2 at home on Saturday.

"We beat a great team in Lake Cormorant," Lady Rockets Coach Trae Embry said. "They had only lost one game before this series, and their pitcher had not lost before this series. We outhit them and our pitching was strong. That was the difference and nothing came easy.

"We are a little tired and we will use this week to prepare for New Hope. They are a different kind of team. It is going to be a tough series."

Neshoba Central outhit Oxford 19-2 as they took the first game of the series.

The Lady Rockets scored two in the first, three in the second, six in the third, seven in the fourth and six in the fifth. Oxford scored two in the fourth.

Aspen Wesley was the winning pitcher. She recorded 10 strikeouts.

Ali Pike hit two home runs and knocked in five runs to pace the Lady Rockets. Kayla Robertson hit two doubles and a single and brought in three runs. Madalyn McMahon and Kayla McKinion both hit a double and a single while Katlyn Duke hit three singles.

Game Two

It was more of the same in the second game as they Lady Rockets outhit Oxford 10-1 and brought in a steady pace of runs.

Neshoba Central scored three in the first, seven in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth. Oxford scored one in the second.

Meg Martin was the winning pitcher. She recorded four strike outs.

McMahon hit a double and two RBIs while Robertson hit a double and a single and one RBI.

Freshman pitcher Aspen Wesley struck out 17 batters and the Lady Rocket batters pounded out nine hits to blank a very good Lake Cormorant team.

Neshoba Central scored one in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.

McMahon hit a home run and a single while Kayla McKinion and Hannah Williams both added a double and a single with one RBI. Katlyn Duke scored a run and Kaila Willis added a hit.

The Lady Gators were not going down easy to Neshoba Central. But a big fourth inning helped to send them on their way.

Neshoba Central scored one in the first, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Lake Cormorant answered with one run in the third and one in the seventh.

Wesley was the winning pitcher. She record eight strike outs. She also helped her own cause with two hits and two RBIs.

Hailey Lunderman hit two doubles, brought in one run and scored two for the Lady Rockets. Williams hit a triple and a double and brought in a run. McKinion added a double and two singles while scoring one run and bringing in another.

McMahon had one hit, scored a run and brought two more in while Willis had one hit and scored two runs. Robertson had one hit.
