Last week was an unusual one for the seven-time in-a-row slow-pitch state champion Neshoba Central Lady Rockets as they lost two straight games for the first time in recent memory.

Neshoba Central won 3-of-5 games last week. They opened the week with a 14-0 win over Southeast Lauderdale and a 19-0 win over Meridian. They then dropped 17-6 decision to Choctaw Central and a 9-8 extra innings game to Northwest Rankin. Neshoba Central closed out the week with a 16-0 win over Winona.

The Lady Rockets entered this week with a 17-3 record. They are currently in a three-way tie with Newton County and Choctaw Central for first place in the region.

The Lady Rockets had three games this week. They were to play Eupora on Monday and Newton County on Tuesday. They play West Lauderdale on Thursday.

“We didn’t hit the ball and got beat,” coach Trae Embry said. “And if we don’t start hitting the ball, we will get beat again.”

The Lady Rockets scored early and often as they knocked off Southeast Lauderdale.

Neshoba Central scored six in the first, three in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Hamaya Fielder had two home runs. She finished the day with three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Mya Willis hit a home run while scoring two runs. Tenly Grisham had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in another.

The Lady Rockets scored 13 runs in the second inning as they easily rolled past Meridian.

Erica Lyons led Neshoba Central with a home run. She had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in three more. Tenly Grisham had three hits, scored one run and knocked in four more. Hamaya Fielder had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in one run. Mya Willis and Layana Morris both had two hits. Reese Page had one hit while scoring two runs and knocking in three more.

The Lady Warriors outhit Neshoba Central 18-10 to take the victory.

Neshoba Central scored two in the first, one in the fourth and three in the fifth. Choctaw Central scored five in the first, six in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Elleigh Willis led the Lady Rockets with a home run. She had two hits, scored one run and knocked in three. Hamaya Fielder had two hits, scored one run and knocked another in.

Northwest Rankin rallied to take the win over Neshoba Central in the Leake Central tournament.

Neshoba Central scored four in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Northwest Rankin scored two in the third, six in the seventh and one in the ninth.

Northwest Rankin had a 16-10 hitting edge. Hamaya Fielder and Mya Willis both hit a home run. Fielder had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in three more while Willis had two hits, scored one run and knocked in three more.

Nautica Bacon had two hits.

The Lady Rockets rebounded to defeat Winona in the second game of the Leake Central tournament.

The Lady Rockets scored 11 in the first and five in the third.

Nautica Bacon blasted two home runs. She scored two runs and knocked in five more. Tenly Grisham hit a home run. She had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in two more. Layana Morris hit a double. Hamaya Fielder had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in another. Shante Beaulieu had two hits, scored one run and knocked in another.
