The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets claimed the Class 5A state championship in fast-pitch softball Saturday afternoon in Ridgeland.

The Lady Rockets won Game 2 in their series with East Central Hornets of Moss Point, 18-5. On Friday, Neshoba Central won the first game, 8-0.

It was the second state championship for the Neshoba Central softball program this school year under first year head coach Trae Embry.

In the fall, they defeated Wayne County to win the Class 5A slow-pitch championship.

"I just can't say enough about these girls," Embry said. "They worked hard all year and never quit. They are eager to work hard in practice and they understand that we take one game at time."

The Lady Rockets finished the season with a 31-6 record.
