The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets roared past Saltillo in the second round of the State Class 5A playoffs this past weekend.

The Lady Rockets won the first game at home Friday with a 12-2 and then took game two on the road, 5-2. Neshoba Central enters the week with a 25-4 record and will take on Lake Cormorant in the third round starting Thursday. The Lady Rockets will host game one starting at 5 p.m.

"It's going to come down to good defense and timely hitting," Neshoba Central Coach Tre Embry said. "They have strong pitching and they have played against good competition.

"We had a good series against Saltillo. We hit the ball well and only made one errors. That was the key," Embry said.

Kayla McKinion was the winning pitcher in both games against the Lady Tigers of Saltillo.

In game one, the Lady Rockets scored one in the first, five in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth. Saltillo answered with one in the fourth and one in the fifth.

The Lady Rockets outhit Saltillo 12-5 and played error-free. Hailey Lunderman led Neshoba Central with four hits and one RBI. Ali Pike added a double and a single while Kayla Robertson had two hits. Madalyn McMahon hit a triple.

The second game was closer. Neshoba Central scored one in the first, three in the second and one in the fourth. The Lady Tigers came back with one in the first and one in the fifth.

The Lady Rockets had a 10-8 hitting edge.

Robertson led the Lady Rockets with three hits and two RBIs. Pike and Katlyn Duke both hit a double while Kaila Willis had two singles.
