The Leake Academy Lady Rebels suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday as they split the season series with Simpson Academy.

The Lady Panthers avenged an early season loss to Leake as they beat the Lady Rebels 58-48. The Lady Rebels also had a pair of big district wins as they beat Winston 61-24 and Lamar 64-28.

The Rebels won two out of three games as well as they opened up the week with a 52-51 win over Lamar and then beat Winston 65-51 on Friday. On Saturday, Simpson beat Leake 74-28.

Leake will travel to East Rankin on Tuesday and will host Starkville Academy on Friday. On Saturday, Leake will make the long road trip to Senatobia to take on Magnolia Heights.

 Friday’s game will also be the first of a 50th anniversary celebration where all former Leake Academy basketball players will be honored.

The Lady Cougars doubled up the Lady Rebels in the fourth period as they handed Leake their first loss of the season on Saturday.

Leake led 13-9 at the end of the first and 22-21 at the half. Simpson outscored Leake Academy 17-16 in the third to tie the game at 38-38 going into the fourth. Simpson outscored Leake 20-10 in the fourth to take the win.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 21 points and seven rebounds while Mabry Mayfield had nine points and 13 rebounds. Emmi Harkins had eight points and three assists.

The Cougars dominated the action as they took a 46-point win over the Rebels on Saturday.

Simpson led 25-6 at the end of the first and 47-12 at the half. The Cougars continued to extend the lead in the second half as they outscored the Rebels 12-7 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth.

Ben Harrison led Leake with 10 points.

The Lady Rebels dominated the first half on Friday as they cruised to a 37-point win over the Lady Patriots.

Leake jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first and outscored the Lady Patriots 20-1 in the second to lead 42-9 at the half. Winston outscored Leake 11-10 in the third while the Lady Rebels took the fourth 9-4.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 18 points while Mabry Mayfield had 12 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Freeny had 10 points and five steals while Savanna Greer had nine points.

The Rebels pulled away late to take a 14-point win over the Patriots on Friday in district play.

Each team scored nine in the first period and Leake outscored Winston 15-13 in the second to lead 24-22 at the half. Leake pulled away in the second half, outscoring Winston 19-16 in the third and 22-13 in the fourth.

Ben Harrison led a balanced scoring attack with 22 points, 18 in the second half. Garrett Dunn had 20 points with 15 of that in the first half. Hagan Davis had 11 points while Hayden Hannis had 10 and Whitt Welch added eight.

The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Raiders in every period and took a 36-point win on Tuesday.

Leake led 14-7 at the end of the first and outscored Lamar 17-7 in the second to lead 31-14 at the half. The Lady Rebels put the game away in third by outscoring the Lady Raiders 22-5 to lead 53-19 going to the fourth.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 20 points while Morgan Freeny had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds. Ashley Smith had 11 points and eight rebounds while Emmi Harkins had six points, four assists and three steals.

The Rebels led early before losing two starters with injury and holding off the Raiders to take a one-point win on Tuesday.

Leake led 23-14 in the first period and outscored Lamar 14-5 in the second to lead 37-19 at the half. With starters Cole Arthur and Henry Dabbs out with injuries, Lamar outscored Leake 16-5 in the third to cut the lead to 42-35. Lamar outscored Leake 16-10 in the fourth and had the lead late before the Rebels took the win.

Ben Harrison led Leake with 15 points while Garrett Dunn had 13 points. Hagan Davis had nine points while Henry Dabbs added seven points.
