LA teams rolling as post season nears

Both Leake Academy basketball teams are coming off a three-win week.
The Rebelettes improved to 27-0 with wins over Canton Academy 60-24, Immanuel Christian 72-24, and Winston 73-45.
The Leake Academy boys have now won 14 of their last 15 games as they defeated Canton Academy 63-50, Immanuel Christian 75-61, and Winston Academy 87-42.
Leake Academy has three games slated for this week. They were to visit Canton on Tuesday, host Manchester on Friday, and then visit Newton Academy on Saturday.
The season is winding down and district tournaments are coming up. The junior high district tournament will be held Jan. 28-Feb. 2 at Winston Academy. Leake Academy will host the district tournament starting Feb. 5. The North Half tournament will also be held at Leake Academy.

The Rebelettes picked up three District 2A victories.
In their 60-24 win over Canton, the Rebelettes led 29-3 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Lady Panthers 19-0 in the second quarter to post a 48-3 halftime lead. Hannah Peoples led Leake Academy with 12 points.
It was pretty much the same their 72-24 win over Immanuel Christian. Leading 34-5 after the first quarter, the Rebelettes outscored Immanuel 19-9 in the second quarter to go up 53-14 at the half. Peoples led Leake Academy with 19 points.
Anna Nowell scored 24 points to lead the Rebelettes past Winston Academy 73-45. Peoples added 10 points.

The Rebels entered an 18-6 record.
Alex Shepard scored 33 points in the Rebels' 63-50 win over Canton Academy. Trailing 11-10 after the first quarter, Canton Academy came back to outscore the Rebels 18-13 in the second quarter to lead 28-23 at the half. The Rebels came back to tie the game at 37-37 heading into the fourth quarter. They then outpointed the Panthers 26-13 in the final quarter to win the game. Thomas Tubby added 10 points.
Tubby came on strong with 33 points against Winston Academy to lead the Rebels to an 87-42 victory. After a close first quarter, Leake Academy outscored the Patriots 23-10 in the second period to post a 49-32 halftime lead. The Rebels outscored Winston 28-8 in the third quarter to put the game away. Tristan Hernandez added 18 points and Reed Mayfield scored 10.
The third quarter proved to be the key for the Rebels in their 75-61 win over Immanuel Christian. The score stood at 16-16 after the first quarter. Immanuel outscored Leake Academy 19-16 and led 35-32 at the half. Leake Academy outscored Immanuel 25-8 in the third stanza and that was the difference. Shepard scored 25 points to lead the Rebels. Tubby added 17 points while Hernandez scored 16 and Mayfield finished with 11.
