The Leake Academy Rebels had a productive spring break as they won three out of four games last week.

 

The Rebels opened up the week with a 16-0 win over Richland and then lost 4-1 to St. Aloysius on Monday. The Rebels then returned on Tuesday and won two more games, beating Vicksburg 11-5 and Bayou Academy 4-0.

 

Leake’s game with Newton County Academy on Saturday was cancelled. Leake was scheduled to begin district play this week with East Rankin but those games have been postponed as all MAIS schools cancelled school for at least one week.

The Rebels broke open a tight game with 15 runs in the last two innings to take a five-inning, run-rule win on Monday.

 

Will Swinney had a big game, going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored. Riley Myers was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Gunter Scott was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Will Martin was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Rhett Atkinson was 2-for-4 with a double while Drew Roberson had two RBIs. Thomas Cheatham also had two stolen bases.

 

Roberson started on the mound and pitched five shutout innings, striking out 8.

The Rebels fell behind early and dropped a three-run decision to the Flashes in their second game of the day on Monday.

 

Drew Roberson was 2-for-3 and scored a run while Gunter Scott was 2-for-3 with a double.

 

Riley Myers started on the mound and took the loss, pitching six complete innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and for walks while striking out eight.

The Rebels scored multiple runs in every inning and took a six-run win over the Gators on their first game of the day on Tuesday.

 

Leake scored three in the first and four in the second to lead 7-2 after two. Vicksburg then scored three in the third while Leake finished with two runs in the third and fourth innings.

 

Leake outhit Vicksburg 10-5 in the contest, led by Thomas Cheatham who was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Riley Myers was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs while Rhett Atkinson was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Gunter Scott and Will Swinney also doubled and scored a run while Will Martin walked twice.

 

Atkinson started on the mound and pitched three innings to pick up the win, giving up five runs, only one earned, on five this and two walks. Landon Walley pitched the final inning and struck out two on 15 pitches.
