For the past five years, Neshoba Central fans have traveled to Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland for the fast-pitch softball championship finals.

Freedom Ridge has hosted both the slow-pitch and fast-pitch state championships for years. But things are going to be different this year.

Earlier this year, the Mississippi High School Activities Association has decided to hold the six state fast-pitch championship finals in two different sites. Mississippi State will host the Class 1A, 3A and 5A state championships while Southern Mississippi will host the Class 2A, 4A and 6A finals. In 2019, the classifications will switch to the other site.

“We are looking forward to playing at Mississippi State,” Neshoba Central coach Trae Embry said. “They hosted the SEC tournament there last year. It is one of the finest softball facilities in the nation.”

First round games will be held Thursday while the second round games will be played on Friday. If a third game is needed, it will be played Saturday.

The class championships will be as follows with starting times:

At Mississippi State

Class 1A: Myrtle vs. Hamilton, 1:30 p.m.

Class 3A: Raleigh vs. Houston, 4 p.m.

Class 5A: Neshoba Central vs. Pearl River Central, 6:30 p.m.

At Southern Mississippi

Class 2A: St. Patrick vs. Lake, 1:30 p.m.

Class 4A: Kosciusko vs. Lawrence County, 4 p.m.

Class 6A: Harrison Central vs. Desoto Central-Northwest Rankin winner, 6:30 p.m.
