Area high school basketball teams will battle for bragging rights and championship trophies when the annual East Central Community College Invitational Tournament is held Dec. 2-7 on the Decatur campus.

Teams representing Forest, Lake, Scott Central, Louisville, Newton, Newton County, Southeast Lauderdale, West Lauderdale, Choctaw Central, Union and Northeast Lauderdale are expected to compete in the double-elimination event scheduled in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building and the South Campus gym. Admission is $6.

In first-round action Monday, Dec. 1 in the girls' bracket, it's #8 Forest vs. #9 Lake at 4 p.m. (South Campus), #6 Southeast Lauderdale vs. #11 West Lauderdale at 5:30 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood), followed by #7 Union vs. #10 Northeast Lauderdale at 7 p.m. (South Campus).

Competition continues Tuesday, Dec. 3, with #4 Louisville vs. #5 Newton at 4 p.m. (South Campus), #2 Choctaw Central vs. Union/Northeast Lauderdale winner at 4 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood), #1 Scott Central vs. Forest/Lake winner at 7 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood) and #3 Newton County vs. Southeast Lauderdale/West Lauderdale winner at 7 p.m. (South Campus).

Semi-finals are scheduled at 4 and 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6 in Brackeen-Wood.

The championship game is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in Brackeen-Wood.

In men's first-round action Monday, Dec. 2, its #8 Northeast Lauderdale vs. #9 Union at 5:30 p.m. (South Campus) and #7 Scott Central vs. #10 Lake at 7 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood).

Competition continues Tuesday, Dec. 3, with #2 Newton County vs. Scott Central/Lake winner at 5:30 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood), #4 Choctaw Central vs. #5 Newton at 5:30 p.m. (South Campus), #1 West Lauderdale vs. Northeast Lauderdale/Union winner at 8:30 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood) and #3 Forest vs. #6 Southeast Lauderdale at 8:30 p.m. (Brackeen-Wood).

Semi-finals are scheduled at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in Brackeen-Wood.

The championship matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in Brackeen-Wood.
