Tynika Bender tallied 19 points and Tanihhija Hughes added 18 in leading East Central Community College's Lady Warriors to a 90-72 thumping of Hinds Community College Thursday on the Utica campus.

The MACJC South Division victory snapped a five-game slide for the EC women, who improved to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in league play under second-year head coach Crandal Porter.

Bender is a freshman guard and product of Newton High School. Hughes is a sophomore forward from Forest.

Other scorers were Bryanna McClendon of Lake, 11; Jaleisha Jones of Wayne County, eight; Anna Katherine Nowell of Leake Academy, seven; Shaniqua Quinn of Brandon and Kimberly Wallace, a product of Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, La., six each; Andreka Harper of Forest and Haley Watkins of Scott Central, five each; Breona Foster of Neshoba Central, three; and Shamiya Evans of Lake, two.

EC led 43-28 at the break.

In the men's contest, East Central was outscored 61-46 by the host Bulldogs.

Jacques Jones poured in 15 points and Terrance Mujahid contributed 14 to lead the Warriors, who fell to 6-13 and 2-8 under first-year head coach Robert Thompson.

Other point makers were Ramone Tate of St. Stanislaus, seven; Quinton Campbell of Mary G. Montgomery High School in Mobile, six; Keon McKinney of West Point, three; and Demarkus Jones of Terry, one.

Hinds led 20-19 at the break.
