After claiming a 6-3 victory over East Mississippi Community College in first-round action Sunday in the MACJC State Softball Tournament, East Central Community College's softball squad dropped a 7-3 decision in semi-final action Monday to host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

The Lady Diamond Warriors, who have now set their sights on this week's Region 23 Tournament, trailed 6-0 before rallying for three runs in the top of the fifth inning of the single-elimination event held on the Perkinston campus.

Lindsey Beard, a product of Clarkdale High School, put EC on the scoreboard with her two-run triple, scoring AJ. Peeler of Neshoba Central and Morgan Porter of Enterprise. Peeler earlier singled and Porter walked to set up the scoring opportunity. Neshoba Central product Marlee Massey slapped an RBI single scoring Beard and EC's final run.

Tenna Patterson took the loss in the seven-inning matchup, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. She fanned two batters and walked four. Patterson is a product of Lexington (Ala.) High School.

The Lady Diamond Warriors, now 31-15 under first-year head coach Kristin Chaney and assistant Courtney Nunn, advance to the regional competition scheduled May 9-11 at Traceway Park in Clinton. Brackets will be announced later today (Tuesday).
