Both Choctaw Central teams went 3-0 in prep basketball action last week.

The Lady Warriors, now 16-1, are ranked as the No. 2 team in the Max Preps poll of all girls basketball teams in Mississippi. They crushed Winona 69-13 for a Region 5-3A victory. They then defeated Philadelphia 70-45 and ended the week with a 63-46 win over Leake Central.

The Choctaw Central boys entered this week with a 13-4 record. They defeated Winona 52-26, Philadelphia 49-43, and Leake Central 73-58.

The Warrior teams have three games slated for this week. They were to host Kemper County on Tuesday and visit Southeast Lauderdale on Thursday. On Saturday, they play in the Choctaw County Classic. The Lady Warriors take on New Site at 5:45 p.m. with the boys to follow against Coahoma County.

Winona was no match for the Lady Warriors who led 41-11 at the half. Shantashia John led with 12 points while Meloney Thames scored 11 points. Melanian Jimmie put in 10 points.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 19-6 lead over Philadelphia in the first quarter and led 38-20 at the half. Thames led with 27 points while Kaedre’ Denson added 17.

Trailing 10-8 after the first quarter, the Warriors bounced back to outscore Winona 24-9 and led 32-19 at the half. The Warriors outscored Winona 30-7 in the second half. Octavious Jones led the Warriors with 16 points.

The Warriors led Philadelphia 30-20 at the half and held off the Tornadoes in the second half to take the win. Treundes Willis led with 15 points while Jones added 10.
