The Choctaw Central softball team only won one out of three games last week but they got the most out of it.

The Lady Warriors handed Neshoba Central its second loss of the season but dropped two tough contests, falling 5-4 to Newton County and 16-12 to Lake.

Choctaw Central, now 7-5, will return to action this week as they host West Lauderdale on Monday. On Tuesday, Choctaw will travel to West Lauderdale and will travel to Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday.

Neshoba Central 6

The Lady Warriors jumped out to an early lead and finished off the Lady Rockets in five innings in a run-rule victory.

Neshoba scored two in the first, one in the fourth and three in the fifth. Choctaw scored five in the first, six in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Choctaw outhit Neshoba 17-10 in the game as Leia Phillips was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Tayla Willis was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Maiya Joe was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored while Neera Bell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tori Henry was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Tia’Rain Saunders had a home run and four RBIs while scoring two runs. Ciji Vaughn had a home run and three RBIs. Ahnaya Williams was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs while Malaka Morris also had two RBIs.

Melanian Jimmie pitched all five innings to pick up the win.



Newton County 5

Choctaw Central 4

The Lady Cougars held off a tough Choctaw Central team to take a one-run win on Tuesday.

Choctaw led 2-1 after three innings before County scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Choctaw scored one in the fourth and sixth innings.

Newton County had 12 hits in the contest as Choctaw Central had eight hits. Leia Phillips was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Tia’Rain Saunders was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Maiya Joe doubled and scored a run.

Melanian Jimmie pitched all seven innings and gave up five runs on 12 hits.





Lake 16

Choctaw Central 12

The Lady Hornets overcame an early deficit and took a hard-fought four-run win over the Lady Warriors on Saturday.

Each team scored three runs in the first inning and Choctaw Central scored five in the top of the second. Lake answered with three in the bottom of the second and seven in the third to go up 13-8. Choctaw Central scored three in the fourth and one in the seventh. Lake added two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Lake had 19 hits in the contest while Choctaw banged out 15 hits but committed three errors.

Tia’Rain Saunders was 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, including a grand slam, three runs scored and six RBIs. Leia Phillips was 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs scored. Maiya Joe was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs while Taylor Willis was 2-for-3. Ahnaya Williams was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Melanian Jimmie had home run and scored two runs. 

Ciji Vaughn pitched 2 2/3 innings while Jimmie pitched the last 3 1/3 innings.
