Choctaw Central split a pair of prep basketball games with Newton County last Tuesday.

The Choctaw Central Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Cougars 67-58 while the Newton County boys topped Warriors 58-47.

The Newton County girls led 28-26 at the half. The Lady Warriors controlled the third quarter, outscoring Newton County 22-16, and carried a 48-44 lead into the final eight minutes of play. The Lady Warriors held on in the fourth quarter, outscoring Newton County 19-14, as they took the win. Kandace Lasiloo led the Lady Warriors with 20 points. Lashayla McMillan added 16 points while Melody Jimmie scored 12.

A scoring low in the second and third quarters proved to be the difference in the boys game. Leading 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, Choctaw Central would only score five points in the second quarter while allowing 13. Leading 25-20 at the half, Newton County then outscored the Warriors 18-12 in the third period and held on for the victory. DeMarquis Wilson led the Warriors with 17 points.

Choctaw Central returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 7, when they visit Newton High School.
