Quinton Campbell's last second put-back scored and the Union Yellowjackets claimed a 66-64 victory over Leake Central last week in prep basketball action.

The victory improved the Yellowjackets to 3-1 on the young season. The Union girls dropped a 61-42 decision to Leake Central and entered the week with a 2-3 record.

This will be a busy week for Union as they were to visit Clarkdale on Tuesday, host Leake County on Friday and host Choctaw Central on Saturday.

Trailing 21-18 after the first quarter, the Yellowjackets came back to outscore the Gators 19-13 in the second quarter and led 37-34 at the half. Union led 50-46 heading into the fourth quarter. Leake Central tied the game but Campbell's shot at the end clichéd the win for the Yellowjackets.

Quinton Campbell led the Yellowjackets with 21 points while Adrian Campbell added 16. Jess Gill and Carmein Brown both scored 10 points.

"It was a good game that went back and forth all night," Union coach Scott Thomas said. "We are starting to come together."

The Union girls, meanwhile, were in it until the fourth quarter when Leake Central pulled away.

"We are getting into the meat of our schedule and we are showing improvement," Union coach Tyler Spears said. "This was our best game of the season. We ran out of gas in the fourth quarter but we are finding the right combinations that will make us completive."

Union trailed 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter where they were outscored 24-10. Kia Rogers scored 14 points to lead Union while Natasha McCune added 10 points.
