The Choctaw Central basketball teams return to action this week as they compete in the Leake Central invitational.

The Warrior teams play McAdams Thursday, starting at 4 p.m. They take on Choctaw County Friday with the girls tipoff at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Choctaw Central plays a pair of games with Leake Central with the first game tipping off at 6 p.m.

The Lady Warriors enter the post-Thanksgiving portion of their schedule with a 5-0 record while the Warriors come in at 4-1.

Choctaw Central played Leake Central on the Monday before the holidays. The Lady Warriors dominated their game 51-29 while the boys took a 56-49 victory.

The Lady Warriors settled the issue early as they bounced out to a 19-3 in the first quarter. Choctaw Central outscored the Lady Gators 14-7 in the second quarter and led 34-19 at the half.

Coach Bill Smith may have tapped the brakes a little in the second half as the Lady Gators had a 19-18 scoring edge.

“We just have to keep getting better,” Smith said, “So far, everyone on the roster has had a chance to contribute and show what they can do. Some have shown promise.”

Kaedre Denson and Shantashia Isaac both led with nine points while Tia Saunders added eight points.

The Warriors had to battle until the end to defeat Leake Central.

The Gators led 15-14 after the first quarter. Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter and the Gators held a 26-25 halftime lead. Choctaw Central outscored the Gators 18-17 in the third quarter to tie the score at 43-43 going into the final stanza. From there, the Warriors limited Leake Central to six points while putting in 13 and took the victory.

Gerald Isom led the Warriors with 16 points while Octavious Jones added 13 points.

Following the Leake Central tournament, the Warrior teams will host Neshoba Central on Tuesday, December 4.
