Big Dogs is the featured team this week with members David "Ziggy" and Robin Ziething, Jeff Riggen, and Jeff "Wolf" Gaines.

Ziggy is employed with Pearl River Resort.

He began bowling in California around age 10 because of his parents and grandmother.

He remembers being on junior leagues and traveling to Nevada to watch his grandmother compete in the Women's Nationals.

Before joining the Thursday Adult League in Philadelphia, Ziggy was a league bowler in Meridian for 5 years then a member of the casino league in Carthage for 10 years.

He is very pleased with Depot Bowling's facility and the friendliness of the league members.

He likes bowling for the challenges it offers and the skills it requires.

Robin works for AGT and has been bowling for 15 years.

As with most couples, she started bowling with Ziggy on the mixed league in Meridian as something to do together.

She is enjoying league bowling at Depot Bowling because the league is bigger than other centers, has a variety of bowlers, and is close to home.

"I enjoy the fellowship with friendly people."

Jeff, while growing up in Sterling Heights, Mich., would accompany his mom to her league night and do his homework.

He didn't bowl in youth leagues, but with his uncle owning a pro shop he was able to frequently open bowl with friends and family.

While in the Navy (1988-92), he bowled in a league at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, Puerto Rico.

Jeff works at Pearl River Resort and was in the casino league with Ziggy.

He likes bowling for the camaraderie and the personal goals to "strive for excellence within yourself."

His highest game of a 298 was accomplished here at Depot Bowling on 3/22/12 with many cheers from fellow league members.

He hopes to reach his goal of a 300 game and 800 series.

Wolf is retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad.

He became interested in bowling as a child in New Orleans while watching it on a neighbors TV in the 50's.

Telling himself "I can do that," he would go outside to the alleyway with half a cinder block.

Tossing the block, he would work on his "form" for hours.

At age 14, Wolf entered a bowling alley for the first time to help his cousin with the janitorial work.

There was no place for blacks to bowl in New Orleans until 1960 when Delta Lanes opened.

There he bowled his first game at age 15.

While in the Navy, when the destroyer would dock, Wolf would look for anywhere to open bowl.

In 1966 he was able to join bowling leagues and has been dedicated ever since.

He would rather bowl than eat.

Wolf likes Depot Bowling for the great restaurant, management, and employees.

"It's a one stop establishment for the family," he says.

He likes the Thursday Adult League because, even though it is highly competitive, the people are more friendly than other bowling centers.

"You can't beat the people."

Wolf and Jeff, as well as Chris Powell, Gary Sumpter and Bettye Simmons, have been volunteering their time to coach the Sunday Youth League.

Thank you all so much for your active interest in the kids.

The Neshoba Central Rockets will have a phone in match with Tupelo tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Next Thursday, Jan. 31, the Rockets will be hosting a face-to-face match against Starkville at 4 p.m.

Please make plans to attend to show your support and cheer for the home team.

Go Rockets!
