Christian Women’s Job Corps  of Philadelphia

The Christian Women’s Job Corps of Philadelphia located in the Neshoba Baptist Center, is now offering two Jobs for Life  classes each Monday and Monday night in Level 1, Jobs for Life & Computer Basics.  Level 2 is Life Skills on Monday nights, with sewing, cooking, budgeting and bonus classes.

Application deadline for upcoming classes, Dec. 29.

Orientation is on Jan 5, prior receipt and acceptance of application by Christian Women’s Job Corps is required to attend the mandatory orientation.  Please identify “one and two” of your area of interest on your application, as openings are limited. Classes start Jan. 8.

ART EXHIBITION

A Philadelphia physician will host an art exhibition Thursday.  Dr. Sunil Kumar will have over 30 paintings at the art exhibition on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pearl View Cafe in Neshoba County General Hospital.

All proceeds will go to Laiken Cole, 2, daughter of Laura and Howard Cole. Laiken has neuroblastoma and has been in and out of the hospital on numerous occasions. Tickets for the exhibition will be $5 each.



EDWARDS CHRISTMAS DINNER

   The Edwards  Christmas dinner will be  Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Fellowship Hall at Pine Grove Baptist Church, House community. Lunch will be served at noon. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship with us.  Tell all your children. This is in loving memory of Mavis.



CHURCH SECURITY

 SEMINAR

There will be a free "Protecting The Flock" church security seminar held at First Baptist Church Louisville, on Monday night, Dec. 11 and Tuesday night, Dec. 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night.  

Jimmy Meeks of Sheepdog Safety Training will conduct this seminar.  He is a 44 year minister, a 35 year police officer based out of Texas.  

He will instruct church members and staff on methods of preventing attacks on churches and keeping members safe.

NESHOBA CHORUSES TO PRESENT ‘CHRISTMAS MELODIES’

The Neshoba Central High School and Middle Choruses will present "An Evening of Christmas Melodies" Thursday, Dec.  7 beginning at 6:30.

Admission of $2 will be taken at the door.



NORTH BEND FIRE

MEETING

The annual meeting of the North Bend Fire Protection District will be held Dec. 9 at 2 p.m .at Station #1 on Mississippi 21 north.  The public is invited to attend.



SANDTOWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH NATIVITY

   The live drive through Nativity at Sandtown Methodist will be Dec. 8 and 9 at 6 - 8 p.m.  The church is at 11950 Highway 482, Philadelphia.



ServSafe Food Protection Manager

 Certification

 The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification course is good for food service and childcare employees.

The Mississippi Food Code requires that each licensed establishment have one certified food safety manager employed full-time. Because food impacts everyone, the need for training and safe food preparation is increasing.

The Mississippi State University Extension –Neshoba County will offer the ServSafe course January 31, 2018, 8-5, in the coliseum’s multi-purpose room. ServSafe requires a 7th edition manual. The certification exam will be administered at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the training.

 To enroll in this course, participants must register no later than Jan. 10  in the county Extension office, 12000 Highway 15 north, Suite 2 inside the coliseum.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

CONCERT

Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newton will host a New Year’s Eve concert featuring Day Three of Mobile, Ala; The Liberty Quartet of Meridian and Southern Heritage of Philadelphia  on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.

PRE-CHRISTMAS

MUSICAL

Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m. Providence Baptist Church will present a pre-Christmas musical. Area groups will include: Spring Hill of Union, Gospel Fellowship, and teenage worship and praise singer "Leah" as well as groups from outside our area "Crossbridge and "Spiritual Gold". The public is invited. Dr. Johnny Barnes is the host pastor.



God’s Closet

Stocking Tree

In this season of giving we ask your help to stock God’s Closet for our local students.  God's Closet is a mission of First United Methodist Women for all the school children in Neshoba County.

We have a Christmas tree in the office entry hallway of First United Methodist Church that is ornamented with little hangers full of items most needed.  

We welcome you to take one or more ornaments and shop for that item. If you wish, you may keep the ornament and hang it on your tree at home.  

We are in particular need of children’s sized coats, jeans and shoes (half sizes). We always need socks, shirts, and pants. Please return the items to the church office during business hours (8 a.m. until 5 p.m.), or to God’s Closet on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings between 9 a.m. and noon.



OCOBLA BAPTIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS CANTATA

   "Christmas Joy" will be presented Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Ocobla Baptist Church located Highway 16 east.



AARP DECEMBER

 MEETING

   The AARP meeting will be Monday Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Building.  This will be a Christmas Party for the members and their guest who are asked to bring their favorite dish to the meal and a Dirty Santa gift costing around $5. to exchange at the party.  

There will not be a Christmas dance this year.

CONCERT AT SALEM

BAPTIST IN LAKE

Everyone is invited to attend a special concert at Salem Baptist Church, 2380 Salem Road, Lake, on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. featuring Browders from Hilton, Va!

  This will be their only stop in Mississippi on their Christmas concert tour!  The Browders will be singing Christmas music both old and new!  So come enjoy praises to our King and the Sounds of the Season with one of America's number one southern gospel groups.
