Don't miss the Christmas Village displayed in the window of the former Faulkenberry's Formal shop on the square here in Philadelphia. It is beautifully displayed, complete with lighting, and has a list of things to seek and find posted on the door to the store.  Some of the things to find are men playing checkers, ice skaters, a goose chasing a boy, Santa Claus, Reason for the Season Christmas pageant, and many, many  more. It is a charming idea and fun for all ages!

It was a very special Thanksgiving celebration for Wendell, Sr. and Florine Holmes. They celebrated the holiday in Cotton Plant, Mississippi, in the home of Florine's oldest sister and her husband.  There were twenty seven family members who gathered together for food, fun, and lots of visiting.  One of Florine's nieces came all of the way from Hawi, Hawaii.

The big event of the evening was when Wendell, Jr. proposed to his girlfriend, Kia Dior Edwards of Atlanta.  The lights in the living room were dimmed as the family waited excitedly together.  Wendell Jr. got down on one knee and asked Kia to marry him. Of course, she said yes! How could she not want to marry such a charming and talented young man with a terrific family?  Congratulations!

It is a long drive from Macon, Ga., to Philadelphia, Miss., but Glen and Jennifer Alford Walker brought their children, Emily, Joseph, and Grace, to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with her parents, Mack and Sherry Alford.  They had been here earlier for the annual molasses cooking at the Alford's syrup mill, and hated to leave.  The children love to visit their grandparents.

The last cooking of molasses was done while they were there, and they got to watch the blue cane ground and boiled into molasses.  With the help of Buck Stovall, Johnny, Andrew, and Herman, Jr. Alford, twenty one jars of molasses were filled and labeled.  It is pure molasses and is so good!

A night time scavenger hunt was planned by Jennifer for the children on Thanksgiving. They had a wonderful time and actually found a possum out exploring in the dark.  There was a last cookout at the mill with hamburgers cooked on the wood stove.  Buck Stovall took Glen on a coon hunt and a raccoon was treed, but not harmed. There were so many other fun activities that the time flew by and it was time to pack up for the eight hour drive back to Macon. Now the Walker family is preparing for Christmas events at their home.

The weather has turned cool and it is time for Anna Kaye Bennett's Caps for Kids drive.  She started collecting caps for children who are patients at the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson last year and the response was fantastic.  Last year there was a total of about 400 new caps, hats, and beanies donated and delivered to the hospital by Anna Kaye and her parents, Michael and Trish Bennett. Anna Kaye is a sixth grader this year at Philadelphia Elementary School.

Anna Kaye would like to beat that number this year.  The Bennetts also learned when they made their last delivery that parents would also enjoy a cap or a hat.  Parents with sick children, especially moms, do not have the time or energy to think of hair, and a hat or cap is a quick and easy fix.

If you would like to donate a cap, hat, or beanie, message Trish Rickles Bennett on Facebook or text her, and she will arrange for a pick up.  Also, if you would like to have a donation box at your business or church, let Trish know and she will get one to you..
