A very precious little gem arrived on December 8th at the Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado.  This little gem is Ruby Anne Goforth whose appearance into the world had been eagerly anticipated by her parents, Kiley and Corby Mason Goforth.  Her grandmother, Judy Mason, and her aunt, Yancey Mason Harrington, had flown to Denver to wait for her arrival, too.  She is a beautiful baby and her family and parents' friends are so glad to welcome her into the world.  Her Philadelphia grandparents are James Paul and Judy Mason.

Ole Miss has a group of students who participate in a unique type of band.  They do not play musical instruments, but rather use their hands to sign the words to music.  This Handband is composed of students who are interested in learning sign language to songs.

The concept of learning sign language to songs is a practical, but fun approach to acquire sign language skills.  Not only do they have to learn everyday vocabulary words, but also fluency skills are gained immediately.  The songs do not slow down the pace to accommodate the beginning signer.  Learning to sign is fun!

The Handband also takes their show on the road.  The members have performed the National Anthem at two home football games this year.  They have learned several different songs and have been performing them at various places such as banquets, conferences and assisted living facilities. Burgin McClellen, a freshman at Ole Miss from Philadelphia, is a member of the Handband and, according to her mother, Robin McClellen, really enjoys it.  She learned signing after joining the band and has found it to be a fun activity which also contributes to the community.  The Handband is sponsored by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Jerusalem Temple's "Annual Sisters' Gathering" was hosted by the Pastor's wife, Sister Miriam Jones, on Saturday morning, December 8th in the Fellowship Hall of the church. She welcomed everyone to the event. The hall was beautifully decorated in a Christmas theme.  Guests were served a delicious breakfast which they enjoyed as they visited with each other.

Speakers for the occasion were Florine Holmes who brought the members up to date on business matters.  Evangelist, Deloris Gatewood spoke on "Nuggets of Life" which was such an inspirational topic for the members attending.  Sister Jones thanked everyone who helped with the gathering and said she hoped they would be together again in 2019.

A huge Happy Birthday to Billie Ruth Latting who celebrated her 92nd birthday recently.  She is such an active person who plays an awesome game of bridge and enjoys visiting with friends.  Her daughter, Marcia Blount, took her out to Weidman's Restaurant in Meridian to help celebrate this monumental milestone.
